This church has stood on this spot for over 500 years

There is a Watch House which was used by those protecting the graveyard during the times of the body snatchers. However William Burke and William Hare  managed to  raid bodies from the graveyard for their grisly trade.

John Knox once preached at Kirk O'Shotts,

Sadly the Kirk is now in urgent need of refurbishment and serious structural repairs. A fundraising program is now well underway and hopefully you may be in a position to assist

The front and back of an old tombstone. 

This tombstone says:

 "Here lies the bones of William Smith who lived in Moremellen who with others appeared in arms at Pentland Hls in defence of Scotlands covenanted work of reformation anno 1660 agreable to the word of God in opposition to popery, prelacy, and perjury and was murdered in his return home near to this place."

And there were freshly planted yellow mums at the base of this 1666 tombstone
